These recordings were made throughout the Hudson River Valley in New York, at various rivers, creeks, and spillways, often integrating the engaged sounds of objects such as cymbals, bells, and rocks in play with the atmospheric surrounding sounds. People speak often these days of ceremonies, and in a way, these are my ceremonies: improvised, organic, stimulating, and cathartic.
Since moving to the Hudson Valley, and especially since the pandemic, I have formed a new and dynamic relationship with rivers; notably moving water. Early pandemic, not to mention also during the intense social injustice of 2020 (needless to say, it continues), I found myself drawn to moving water, standing in it, feeling the singularity of my body in nature, alone. Feeling its force and fluid solidity, seemingly separate from all the issues swirling around and colliding in the world; but at the same time, completely at one with them. These recordings document my interactions with said environments during this time.
